It’s a weird, weird time in the world right now due to COVID 19. Many of us may have never worked from home before, and are now expected to conduct business as usual from…wherever you can set up “office” in your home. I can tell you from firsthand experience that working from home can either be GREAT for productivity, or absolutely terrible. It all depends on how you set yourself up for success. Here are my easy, tried-and true tips for working from home:
- Set an alarm & start your day at a normal time. Normalcy and schedules are your best friend during this time.
- Work out! I love getting my workout in first thing – it helps clear your head & wake you up, which is especially important when you’re not going to be leaving the house for work. Now’s the perfect time to see if you can become a morning workout person! (I swear by it, and I’m NOT a morning person.)
- Get ready!!!! Shower, put some makeup on/do your hair, and change clothes.
- While getting ready, play a positive playlist on your music app of choice. I love the “mood booster“, “morning motivation“, and “happy beats” playlists on Spotify.
- Open the windows, doors, and/or blinds. It’s crazy how easy it is to forget that there is life beyond your desk setup – ha! Getting some of that natural light & hearing birds chirp is CRAZY good for the soul.
- Make a to-do list for the day. Sometimes it’s hard to feel productive at home. Make sure you’re prioritizing the things you need to get done vs. want to get done.
- Take a dang break. Prepare a nice big salad or sandwich for lunch & take a walk around outside. Get that fresh air & reset!
- Determine an “end time” for your work day. Set an alarm if you have to. It is SO important to still separate work life from home life, even if your current “office” might be your couch or dining table.

All is fair in love, war, and using rock-paper-scissors to determine who gets the best “office” spot in your home,
